A north-east musical group have has begun the search for a new conductor for the first time in four decades.
Peterhead Choral Society recently said goodbye to Alistair MacDonald, who had led them for as long as most members could remember.
The 71-year-old’s retirement was marked with a celebratory meal as he was thanked for his service.
While fond memories will linger for a long time, choral society president Lawrence Bandura said the group was keen to continue with a new leader as soon as possible.
He said: “In years gone by it was the case that our conductor was also the head of music at Peterhead Academy.
“Alistair was in the job for so long – for the past 38 years – that things have now changed.
Mr Bandura has a clear vision of the kind of person he would like to step into Mr Macdonald’s shoes.
He said: “There seems to be a shortage of conductors at the moment and while one of our playing members is currently undertaking those duties they don’t wish to take the role on permanently.
“We need somebody with a musical background who is able to read scores and ideally we would like have someone in place before the start of our new season.
“We hope there is someone out there who would be interested in leading us.”
Mr Macdonald, meanwhile, said he will miss being part of Peterhead Choral Society.
“I felt like it was the right time to go,” he said.
“Music is changing and there a lot of demands on choirs and conductors. I thought it was about time for a fresh approach.
“An important part of my life is changing now and I shall miss it.”
Peterhead Choral Society meets in the town’s academy every Tuesday evening between September and May.
