An Aberdeen band has vowed to “pick ourselves back up” and keep playing music after they lost £10,000 of equipment in a fire.
The popular band Glitz, known around the north-east for playing weddings, were told on Sunday afternoon that most of their equipment had been destroyed in a serious blaze.
Their musical gear had been kept inside a rented storage space at Birkhill Storage and Distribution Ltd in Dyce when a fire tore through the premises at around 10.30am on Sunday.
It is thought the fire occurred due to an electrical fault.
Mairi Newberry, the founder and drummer of Glitz, said: “It’s just devastating – we’ve lost about £10,000 of our equipment.
“We’re all just gutted, it’s been a real nightmare.
“It’s a really stressful situation to be in – we really need to pick ourselves back up now. We feel awful, it’s just horrible.”
The band, who have been performing together for six years, has insurance cover for the goods.
Ms Newberry said the incident highlighted the importance of not keeping all of your equipment in one place, just in case disaster strikes.
She added: “We had three state-of-the-art PA systems in there, as well as speakers and microphones.
“I would like to send out a message to younger bands to tell them it’s so important for bands not to keep everything in one place.
“We’re so lucky that we had some of our equipment in our van at the time, so we didn’t lose absolutely everything.
“We can just about manage to keep on performing and honour the bookings that have already been made.
“But you just never know what’s going to happen – you may think it won’t happen to you, but it’s not something you ever want to risk.”
As well as the band’s equipment, almost £40,000 worth of vintage vehicles were destroyed in Sunday’s blaze, including old Audis, two tractors, a motorbike and a Volkswagen Golf.
