Hundreds of fascinating items went under the hammer yesterday as the Antiques Road Trip television crew stopped off at an historic Aberdeen auction house.
Hosts Margie Cooper and Charles Hanson posed for selfies with delighted fans at the John Milne Auctioneer’s on North Silver Street as part of the 17th series of the popular programme, which will be broadcast later this year.
The pair are currently in the middle of an adventure across Britain behind the wheel of a vintage car, searching for hidden treasures in antique dealerships and competing to make the most money selling them at auctions.
Yesterday, the pair brought along a selection of items they purchased in Inverness-shire to be auctioned off by senior auctioneer Graham Lumsden.
Over the course of the four-hour sale, 322 different items from across Scotland and beyond were put up for sale.
Sandy Milne, one of the partners of the family-owned auction house, said: “There was a real buzz in the showroom.
“Maggie and Charles appeared at around 7.45am, and we had a number of early customers who were very interested and wanted to see the whole television shoot being set up, and of course there were very interesting collector’s items for sale as well – so there was a lot of fascinating stuff going on. “
John Milne Auctioneer’s was founded in 1867, and sells everything from fine china to oil paintings.
Yesterday’s auction included pieces by some of Aberdeen’s most famous artists, including Eric Auld and Jackson Simpson.
Mr Milne added: “There were so many interesting and unusual items.
“We had a lot of stuff from an old country house out towards Banchory that had not seen the light of day in many years, including three very old miniature portraits on copper which were sold for £2,000 to a local antiques dealer.
“We had quite a few Victorian and Georgian furniture sold, and some really good Aberdeen silver – it was a really special day.
“Every time we have television crews around, we get a really good reception – people crowd around and take selfies with them at the door, it’s a very positive atmosphere and everyone loves it.”
