A young north-east woman who has been fighting cancer for the last eight years has organised a revved-up occasion for sick children and their families and the nurses and doctors who have helped in their treatment.
Emily Findlay, 22, originally from Orkney, but who now lives in Aberdeen, has arranged the special Supercar Day at Grampian Transport Museum on April 8.
And she is hoping youngsters and their families who have benefited from treatment at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital will enjoy the chance to meet with those who cared for them in a social setting.
Miss Findlay, who has fought a long-running battle against the aggressive cancer Neuroblastoma, has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities which are close to her heart.
She also campaigned to help other people with the disease and became an ambassador for such organisations as The ARCHIE Foundation, Clan and Logan’s fund, while she was still a teenager.
She said: “I held a supercar event back in 2015 and it proved really popular with youngsters and their families.
“So I have decided to expand the day and we already have over 30 supercars and a whole lot of other attractions planned for next Sunday.
“RACH does a fantastic job and I know from my own experience how valuable it is to give people who are going through long-term hospital treatment the opportunity to spend quality family time together outside of the hospital environment.
“I have received help from a lot of companies in organising this, including Jamieson Quarries Ltd and the Fennel Restaurant.
“They have been fantastic.
“This is not a fundraiser, it is purely a day out for the kids and their families and a chance for them to create special memories and for the children of nurses and doctors who work tirelessly at RACH.
“The more who come along and enjoy themselves, the better.
“I am still keen to hear from anybody who might want to bring another supercar to the GTM because I know how much a good show of cars and their drivers will mean to the children.”
