Residents living along a north-east road have pleaded for assistance to end the speeding and traffic noise woes that are increasingly blighting their lives.
People in Peterhead’s Kinmundy Road have called for urgent safety measures to be introduced and hope that appeal will not fall on deaf ears once more.
Local councillors have previously raised motions in front of colleagues in the hope of having action taken, without success.
The 30mph road goes through a residential area but links the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh Road on one side to Meethill Road on the other.
And while it is considered a residential road by locals, it has seen increasingly heavy traffic usage in recent years.
Residents say the noise of cars going by homes and the sheer volume of traffic is having a negative impact on their lives.
Some parents say the traffic gives them pause for thought before letting their children outside to play.
George Wilkinson has lived in Kinmundy Road for four decades and said the traffic problems were now “beyond a joke”.
He said: “This volume of vehicles shouldn’t be using this street. This is a residential area.
“All the other roads have bumps installed and they should be installed here too.
“You can’t event speak to your neighbours outside because of the noise. It is just constant.
“The traffic here is beyond the joke.”
Violet Jop lives in Kinmundy Road with her partner and two children and has warned action is vital.
She said: “In the evening motorists just leave the roundabout and speed off up the road.
“The cars are really going fast and I don’t feel safe letting my son out to play in the park here.
“If feels like people are just waiting for an accident to happen before something is done. That will be too late.”
Peterhead North and Rattray councillor Alan Buchan is backing the residents’ fight.
He raised the issue at a Buchan area committee meeting last year – only to be balked by colleagues – butsaid he was as determined as locals to see action taken.
“The residents and I have done everything we can. We just need this to be solved.
“Sadly my motion failed and we are back to square one. All we can do is raise another motion in a few months’ time.”
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said the local authority was keen to hear about ideas to upgrade road safety.
He said: “We’re always happy to speak to residents who have ideas for improving road safety in their communities.”
