Signs banning parking outside an Aberdeen football ground are finally being removed – more than two years after the stadium was demolished.
Highland League side Cove Rangers played their last game at Allan Park in April 2015.
Despite this, notices banning vehicles from nearby streets during match days have remained outside, to the bemusement and inconvenience of locals.
A housing development has since sprung at the site of the old ground, off Loirston Road, with a number of the homes created there already occupied.
The club itself, meanwhile, is preparing to move into the new Balmoral Stadium, which will soon see action.
The sign conundrum has therefore been the source of much confusion, by finally Aberdeen City Council has confirmed housing developers will remove the signs.
That work is just one of a number of stipulations agreed as part of planning permission.
Ward councillor Alex Nicoll said the delay had left residents scratching their heads.
“I’ve had a number of constituents contact me to ask why these signs remain plastered around the local area when the stadium hasn’t been used since 2015,” Mr Nicoll said.
“Many of the homes built on the site of the former football stadium are now occupied and having so many match day signs in place is simply unnecessary clutter.
“Thankfully, the council has finally confirmed that the developers will undertake their duties and remove these signs.
“I’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on matters to ensure this happens.”
One resident of nearby Falkland Avenue, who did not want to be named, said: “I’m delighted to see the back of the signs, to be honest.
“They are three years out of date and make no sense now that the stadium has long gone.
“Thank goodness they are finally doing something about it.”
