Picture by Kenny Elrick. Council chiefs have begun talks with parents to try to solve an ongoing dispute over mementos being left at an Aberdeen cemetery. Bereaved parents and guardians have long placed items, like cuddly toys and windchimes, beside their children’s graves at the Hazlehead facility. The city council, however, wrote to them last month asking that the items be removed due to health and safety fears over grass cutting. Some parents branded the plan “heartless” and launched a petition calling on the authority to perform a u-turn. That led the council to delay the plan and pledge to engage in consultation. Last night a spokesman confirmed those discussions have now begun.
