A professional cyclist visited school children yesterday ahead of a British cycling race which will return to Aberdeen this year.

Jacob Scott, a rider with the ONE Pro Team, visited Robert Gordon College to give students a talk about the OVO Energy Tour Series and give them an insight into the life of a world-class cyclist.

The 22-year-old became a household name after taking part in last year’s event and plans to return for the competition which takes place in the city in May.

Sarah Webb, Head of Robert Gordon’s College Junior School, said teachers were committed to helping children develop their cycling skills.

She said: “Our pupils have really enjoyed talking with Jacob learning more about the professional cycling world and what it takes to be a world-class cyclist.”

“Cycling is a really important life skill that all children should have to enable them to cycle safely on their own.”

The OVO Energy Tour Series is Britain’s leading domestic televised race series. Taking place in eight town and city centre locations, The Tour Series will celebrate its tenth season in May 2018 and came to Aberdeen for the first time last year with the event hailed as a success.

Mick Bennett Race Director of the OVO Energy Tour Series organisers SweetSpot said: “I’d like to thank the ONE Pro Cycling team and Jacob Scott for visiting Aberdeen and helping to inspire local school children to cycle more.

“Last year’s OVO Energy Tour Series round in Aberdeen was an incredible success, helped greatly by the sheer number of young race fans who lined our iconic circuit through the heart of the city centre. I hope that they’re all able to return for our much-anticipated second visit on Thursday 17 May, especially as we’ve added a professional women’s event to a packed schedule of racing this year.”

Aberdeen City Council co-Leader, councillor Douglas Lumsden added: “The Tour Series in 2017 was an incredible day with people lining the streets to cheer on the competitors, so to have Jacob here today to inspire the next generation of cyclists is brilliant.”
