Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has been asked to investigate claims Aberdeen South MP Ross Thomson appeared to “glorify” persecution and torture during a trip to Iraq.
Mr Thomson sparked controversy when he said he was channelling his “inner dictator” in an online post of photos of him posing in Saddam Hussein’s parade ground and sitting on his throne.
SNP member Chris Law has now written to Ms Davidson asking what action will be taken against Mr Thomson, and how similar incidents can be prevented going forward.
He said: “The actions of Ross Thomson are insulting to all the victims of Saddam Hussein’s regime including those who lost their lives and family members, the brave British service men and women and the many Iraqis who have made Scotland their home, including members of his own constituency.”
Mr Thomson said: “There was absolutely no intention whatsoever to cause offence.
“My views on Iraq and the value of UK intervention in the region are very clear.”
