A north-east man who invited a near-stranger to stay at his house and then attacked him with a kitchen knife has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Alan Thomson met Bruce Ross for the first time at a party and took him to his home on Menzies Road in Aberdeen on August 1 last year.
The following morning Thomson woke up to discover another friend had arrived and his house guest was engaged in an argument with him.
As the pair began to brawl in the street outside, Thomson struck Mr Ross with a knife he had picked up from a kitchen worktop.
The 27-year-old pled guilty to the offence during an earlier appearance at the sheriff court and returned there yesterday to be sentenced.
Defence agent Shane Campbell said his client had not picked up the knife with the intention of striking Mr Ross.
He said: “He simply wanted him out of the building.
“They got outside and he was still not willing to turn his back and walk away.”
Sheriff William Summers ordered Thomson to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and placed him under social work supervision for 18 months.
