An Aberdeen community has been given the Scottish Government’s permission to move forward with a bid to take over a private plot of land.
Bonnymuir Green Community Trust is keen to take over a derelict bowling green in Midstocket and turn it into a market garden and cafe.
Pending approval from the land owner, the group will now enter an exclusive four-month window to make a formal bid for Bonnymuir Bowling Green.
If successful, BGCT will become the first organisation in the north of Scotland to use the community buy-out legislation that came into force in 2015.
Trust co-chairwoman Ingrid Stanyer said: “This is fantastic news and the result of a great deal of effort from our team over the past three years.
“We are delighted at the decision of the Scottish Ministers and extremely grateful for the overwhelming support of the community.
“The trust already has a number of funding applications in process and this decision as well as our recent confirmation of charity status will allow us to submit them.
“We will also be undertaking fundraising with the community over the next three months and would ask for as much support as possible to make this project a reality.”
