A food bank has had the number of essential supply parcels it can deliver halved after being targeted by a thief.
Last week a catalytic converter was ripped out of one of Instant Neighbour’s vans while it was parked outside its base on St Machar Drive.
Footage of the theft was caught on CCTV, and police are now searching for the man responsible.
Business development manager Susan Cheyne said: “We just feel dismayed that someone has targeted a charity that helps thousands of people. It’s so senseless.
“We have been here for 10 years and operational for 33 years and nothing like this has ever happened before, which is the most shocking thing.”
Last year Instant Neighbour provided 6,905 food parcels to 2,442 people.
Mrs Cheyne added: “Our van being off the road means we can’t collect donations, we can’t do deliveries and we have to turn down the amazing help we are offered from the volunteers who go out with the van.
“We only have two vans, so this has put us down to half a delivery service.”
The theft took place at around 4.40am last Tuesday.
While the charity will be able to claim the £1,000 repair bill on insurance, it has had to fork out the VAT and a £100 excess.
A police spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing and we would encourage anyone with information to call police.”
