A former Gladiators’ star has beaten a weightlifting record and secured his place in the history of an awe-inspiring Aberdeenshire tradition.
James Crossley, also known as Hunter from the hit 1990s television show, managed to lift the Dinnie Stones at Potarch off the ground for 34 seconds, beating the previous best time of 33.9 seconds set by America Bryan Hunsaker last March.
Weightlifters have just two opportunities each year to lift the stones, which have a combined weight of 52.3st.
Mr Crossley, 44, said: “I was a broken man at the end.
“All I could do was break down and burst into tears – the emotion all came out at once.”
