A 28-year-old man has been charged in relation to an alleged attempted murder in the High Street area of Stonehaven on Thursday evening.
He is expected to appear from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.
A 21-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at around 7pm on Thursday where he continues to be treated for serious injuries.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond said yesterday: “This has been a contained incident and I would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation and patience while enquiries were progressed in the area.
“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the High Street area around 7pm last night to come forward with any information by calling police on 101.
Cordons were erected at the junction with Bogwell Lane and near the Cool Gourmet tearoom as specialist officers arrived in the town on Thursday.
Scenes-of-crime officers wearing white body suits showed a special interest in one doorway on the High Street and the pavement around it.
Officers scoured the road for evidence and photographed various parts of the street.
Residents said the activity was “highly out of the ordinary” for what is normally a quiet part of the Aberdeenshire seaside town.
