A man has appeared in court following an alleged assault in a north-east town.
Police were called to the High Street in Stonehaven at about 7pm on Wednesday following reports of an attack.
When they arrived at the scene near the junction with Arbuthnott Place they discovered a 21-year-old man with injuries.
He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by paramedics. Officers sealed off the street while they carried out an investigation.
Residents said the activity was “highly out of the ordinary” for the quiet seaside town.
Stuart Duguid appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday charged over the alleged incident.
The 28-year-old was charged with assault to severe injury and danger of life and made no plea.
Duguid, whose general address was given as Stonehaven, was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court next week.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond urged anyone with information to contact the police.
He thanked members of the public for their cooperation and patience while inquiries were taking place.
He said: “We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the High Street area around 7pm on Wednesday night to come forward with any information.
“Police Scotland can be contacted on 101.”
