Students at Robert Gordon University have been given a standing ovation by Aberdeen Performing Arts for their fundraising efforts in support of the £7 million Music Hall transformation project.

The group of third-year students created a weekend of events for the Aberdeen Student Festival and raised more than £1,600 in aid of the venue, which has been closed since 2016 for major refurbishment work.

Once the famous venue reopens, one of the seats will feature a special plaque commemorating their kind donation.

It is hoped work on the Music Hall will be completed by the end of the year.

Charlotte Farmer from Aberdeen Performing Arts said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in organising such an imaginative and vibrant festival.

“It has been wonderful to be given the chance to work alongside the students.

“As 2018 is the Year of Young People, and the Music Hall transformation will be reaching fruition by the end of the year, we are delighted to gift a seat in the new Music Hall to the students as a lasting thank you for their generosity and the part they have played in the project.”
