Police in the north-east are liasing with forces across the UK in an attempt to find a missing handyman.
Alan Jones, from Rhynie, was last seen at Marischal College in Aberdeen last Wednesday. The 52-year-old – who is known to hitchhike – was reported missing two days later.
Forensic teams have searched Mr Jones’s home in Main Street, Rhynie, in attempt to find him and are trawling through CCTV to track his movements in the days before his disappearance.
Sergeant John Kearney, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are liaising with our colleagues across Scotland and also other forces in the UK to ensure that Alan’s description is shared far and wide. We are also carrying out extensive CCTV work and pursuing other lines of inquiry to try and establish his exact movements over the past week.
“I want to appeal to Alan directly to please make contact with police to let us know you are safe and well if you see this appeal – our only aim is to ensure you are OK.”
Police are now appealing to motorists who may have picked up a hitchhiker matching Mr Jones’s description to come forward. He is described as being 5ft 11in, short brown hair and an English accent. He was thought to be wearing dark jeans and a dark T-shirt.
Anyone with information about Mr Jones’s whereabouts should call 101.
