A public vote has opened to name a new unit being created at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to help free up beds.
The department will only admit patients to hospital on the day of their planned operation, meaning they will not have to spend the night there beforehand.
It is hoped that nine out of 10 patients admitted will be able to walk from the unit to the operating theatre before moving to another ward for recovery.
An NHS Grampian spokesman said: “This will be more convenient for patients, their family and visitors and will free up staff time and hospital capacity.
“The change follows a successful trial of the new way of working at general surgery, one of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s busiest specialties.”
