An empowering fashion show has been organised to highlight the support available for women who have lost a child.

The Miscarriage Information Support Service (Miss) planned the event, which will take place this autumn, to raise the self-esteem of its supporters.

The plans were spearheaded by Abi Clarke who founded the organisation last year, disappointed by the lack of places to turn to when she suffered a miscarriage in 2014.

She said: “Our aim is to give people a way to increase their confidence about their bodies.

“Hopefully they can meet other people and gain friends who have gone through something similar, as they will all have shared experiences.”

The fashion show is being held at The Marcliffe Hotel And Spa on November 16, and will include a drinks reception, two-course meal, and entertainment by a DJ and band.

Mrs Clarke said: “The models will get a bit of pampering. They’ll get their nails and hair done and a fashion stylist will sort out their clothes.

“It’s about raising awareness for the group but the members can take their family and friends along.

“Even though they might be going through a loss, they can enjoy a meal, have a dance and meet other people.”

Mrs Clarke is hoping for at least 100 guests on the night and an atmosphere welcoming to all.

“It’s a lovely hotel and quite posh, but we’re wanting it to be as comfortable as possible so people can just relax,” she said.

Miss is seeking stall holders, corporate sponsors and donations to its raffle and auction which will also be held during the event.

Mrs Clarke said: “Hopefully it will be really good.

“I know there are a lot of events out there that businesses can help with but no matter how small the contribution they can make, it’s important to us.”

Early bird tickets for the show cost £45, rising to £50 from July 1, and can be purchased by visiting www.facebook.com/miscarriageinformationsupportservice
