Aberdeen City Council has yet to process a single parking ticket appeal this year with up to £137,340 in fines due.
More than 2,000 tickets were appealed between January 1 and May 20 – but not one had been dealt with by mid-May.
The figures, obtained under freedom of information legislation, were branded “ridiculous” by council co-leader Douglas Lumsden.
The local authority blamed the backlog on the high volumes of appeals, but was unable to say when the delays started or how many cases before the turn of the year are affected.
Aberdeen City Council issued 15,305 parking tickets in the time period, with a total of 5,897 remaining unpaid as of May 20.
In the FOI response, the council said drivers have made 2,289 appeals but stated the “appeals have not been processed yet”.
Mr Lumsden called for an “urgent” meeting with officers to see what is being done to resolve the issue.
He said: “Our point of view is it’s a bit ridiculous that people have had to wait so long for their appeal to be resolved and it’s something we’ve already brought up with officers and will be looking for an urgent meeting to see what is being put in place to resolve the issue.”
A city council spokeswoman said: “We currently have a backlog of cases pending due to the high volumes of appeals received.
“Appeals are processed on a date-received basis, and we are currently processing appeals received in January 2018.”
SNP councillor Michael Hutchison, who represents the George Street and Harbour ward, said: “It’s a joke that not one appeal has been processed in at least the past five months.
“Given the huge impact a fine like this could have on some households, it’s simply unfair to leave them waiting this long to hear back.”
The figures reveal 40,392 parking tickets were issued in 2017/18 with 32,326 fines being paid and 8,066 remaining unpaid.
