Residents of Balmedie have been left with no water over the last two days due to a burst mains.
One woman claimed she was unable to wash her hands after changing her son’s nappy, with the village left without water on Thursday night or yesterday morning.
Residents originally believed that the warm weather meant that staff at the nearby Trump International Golf Links at Menie were using more water to keep the courses in pristine condition.
But last night, Scottish Water confirmed the problem was the result of a burst water main.
A team was seen in the wooded area around Balmedie House Care Home with two diggers yesterday.
Malcolm Garrington lives with his wife, Julie, and two children.
He said his wife was horrified to find out she was unable to wash her hands after changing her baby’s nappy, and described the situation as “totally unacceptable”.
He said: “We have young children and are trying to get them fed and watered. Having eratic mains water means that we may not be able to flush the toilet or manage the basic daily chores of cooking, cleaning and making drinks for the family.”
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “We are aware of the disruption to normal water supply for customers in the Balmedie area of Aberdeen. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
Three schools were closed earlier in the week when an underground pipe on West Tullos Road ruptured, leaving 4,500 homes without water.
Scottish Water said: “Our engineers were called to deal with a burst water main in the grounds of Balmedie House in Balmedie, Aberdeen.
“As a result, approximately 50 properties experienced loss of normal water supply.
“We made bottled water available for those customers affected.
“The location and nature of the work is complex, but we are working to get normal supply restored as soon as possible.
“Scottish Water apologises for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while this essential repair work is carried out.”
