A Banchory man has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for his voluntary service to sailing.
Ewan MacPherson has been involved in the sport for over 50 years setting up numerous sailing clubs in Scotland, including organisations in the north-east.
The 69-year-old is currently the chairman of the Royal Yachting Association Scotland, the national governing body for sailing, windsurfing and powerboating in the country.
Mr MacPherson was shocked to receive the honour. He said: “It came out of the blue and took a while to sink in.”
He dedicated his award to everyone he has worked with during his long career.
“I think this award is a real reflection of everyone I’ve worked with,” he said. “I’ve been sailing all of my life and worked with hundreds of people whose efforts have made all this possible.
“I feel like I’m accepting this on behalf of all of them.”
