June Morrison had to read and re-read the letter she was given explaining she was becoming an MBE before it sunk in.
The 77-year-old has dedicated the last 40 years of her life to politics and has served as chairwoman of the Aberdeen City Conservative Association since last year.
She said: “I never, ever wanted to be a politician.
“I enjoy being a backroom person and helping to organise elections.”
During her time volunteering with the party, Mrs Morrison has been an agent to both the late city councillor John Porter and MP Ross Thomson and assisted with campaigns at all levels of politics.
“I have met so many nice people over that time,” she added.
“And I don’t even know, or have any inclination, who nominated me for this.
“I couldn’t believe it when I read the letter.
“At first it was like it was about someone else, I didn’t understand until I reread it and thought ‘that’s me’.”
