An Aberdeenshire community council could be disbanded if more volunteers do not step forward urgently.
Lumphanan Community Council faces dissolution due to a decline in the number of members.
Now local MSP Alexander Burnett has urged residents to get involved, and have their say on a range of local matters such as planning applications and raising awareness of concerns and events.
Mr Burnett has written to residents asking them to contact Aberdenshire Council if they are interested in joining the group.
He said: “Many people are aware of the benefit of community councils.
“They are a powerful voice to Aberdeenshire Council, local councillors, MSPs and MPs, and I cannot emphasise enough how important they have been to my office as an MSP for providing information on local events, issues and concerns.
“There is a minimum commitment to meet at least six times a year including the AGM, and there is a real benefit to the community.
“Letting Lumphanan dissolve would be a real blow to the village voice and to local democracy.”
Those wishing to volunteer for Lumphanan Community Council should contact Janelle Clark at Aberdeenshire Council on 01975 520400 by June 25.
