Emergency crews had to cut a casualty free from his car following a four-vehicle accident in Aberdeen yesterday.
The vehicle overturned as the vehicles collided on the city’s Summerhill Road shortly after 3pm.
Police, fire and ambulance teams all made their way the scene and the road was closed while they worked.
A yellow Vauxhall Corsa was lying on its side when they arrived and the front windscreen was immediately removed to allow paramedics to assess the driver’s condition.
Firefighters then used airbags to prop up the vehicle and cutting gear to gain access to the inside of the vehicle.
A ladder was finally used to help carefully extract the male driver through the boot of the car.
The casualty, who is thought to have sustained serious injuries, was placed in a neck brace and stretchered to a waiting ambulance.
Witnesses said paramedics worked on the man for about 30 minutes before he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
A silver Volkswagen Tiguan, a blue Audi estate car and a white Volskwagen were also involved in the incident.
Their occupants are not thought to have been seriously hurt.
The road was completely closed for over an hour, between Summerhill Terrace and the junction with Rosewell Gardens, before the vehicles were recovered and debris cleared.
Sergeant Jon Harris led the police unit that attended the incident.
He said: “We received the call to action at 3.30pm. We dealt with road closures and diversions, supporting the fire and ambulance services where we could.
I thank local residents and businesses for their co-operation.”
Steve Delaney, councillor for Kingswells, Sheddocksley, Summerhill thanked the emergency services for their swift response and expressed surprise at the nature of the accident.
“My wife alerted me to the crash after passing the closed road,” he said.
“I was surprised that four vehicles were involved in the crash as the street is in a residential area.
“My thanks go out to the emergency services for dealing with the serious matter so well.”
Elsewhere in Aberdeen, emergency services were called to another accident on Rosemount Place.
Two vehicles collided at about 4.20pm.
Fire crews were required to prevent one of the vehicles catching fire.
No-one is thought to have been injured.
