Hundreds of children from across the north-east enjoyed an exciting day out at this year’s Rotary KidsOut Day.
Held at Scotland Rural College’s Craibstone campus, 28 primary schools were invited to the day of activities yesterday.
KidsOut was created to give children with additional support needs a day to enjoy with their peers and remember for the rest of their lives.
Pupils got to take part in a host of events including face painting, drumming workshops, train rides and scaling a climbing wall.
A special owl display from 2Witt2Woo Owl-Rescue left the school teachers and pupils astounded.
After a lunch of sandwiches and Mackies ice cream, an open air disco closed the day of activities.
An army of 500 volunteers were responsible for the event being such a large success, with organisers thanking everyone involved.
Senior pupils from Westhill Academy acted as clowns and supported catering staff and face painters. Even emergency services came out to take part in the event.
Police allowed pupils to sound the siren of the police car while the fire service demonstrated the various parts of their fire engine.
A police spokesman said: “We visited the KidsOut event at Craibstone Campus to give the young people an insight into what the police do. Thanks are due to all the youngsters our officers spoke to for showing so much interest. We hope they enjoyed it as much as our officers did.”
The event organisers said they were “indebted” to the CHAP Group which has supplied the transport of items to the event and also provided toilets, generators, barriers and skips.
One volunteer said: “It is so satisfying to see the genuine smiles and shouts of excitement from the kids as they try out the wide range of activities on offer.”
