Mothballed Hazlehead swimming pool will not be reopened after being deemed “economically unviable”.
Local councillor Jennifer Stewart had asked for a study to be undertaken by officers to see if the pool, which closed two years ago, could be brought back to life.
But yesterday’s city growth committee were told by finance head officer Steve Whyte that to carry out the necessary repairs would take the “guts of £400,000” and that something else would have to be cut.
Fellow Hazlehead councillor Martin Greig moved that the pool be reopened “as soon as possible” with funding potentially found from underspends and other sources.
He said: “Considerable resources have been allocated to other parts of the city while the interests of the people of Hazlehead and the west end are overlooked.
“Where there is a political will, there is a way.”
But committee convener Douglas Lumsden challenged him on what he would cut instead.
He added: “We have to find £125 million of savings in five years. We have to be honest with the public that there isn’t the money there.”
The decision to take no further action on the pool was supported by five votes to four.
