Councillors have approved plans to transform a former Aberdeen’s pub function room into student accommodation.
The Brig O’ Dee on Holburn Street’s lounge area will be converted into 29 student flats following a decision by yesterday’s planning committee.
Concerns had been expressed that the incomers could put extra pressure on parking in the area and there were six objections to the plan.
However officers ruled that the risk was acceptable given the low car ownership among the student population generally.
Committee convener Marie Boulton moved the officer recommendations which were unanimously backed.
Pub owner David Reid said: “I’m delighted with the decision.
“We have tried everything with the lounge to get it going but nothing has worked.
“The main thing is that the pub isn’t closing- the pub is going like a fare and arguably one of the most popular in town.”
