Claims against Mark McDonald which were not proven had a “significant and lasting impact” on his mental health and his family, the Aberdeen Donside MSP said.
The former early years minister criticised his former colleague James Dornan, SNP MSP for Glasgow Cathcart, whose complaint led to a fresh probe into Mr McDonald’s conduct.
An inquiry by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life ruled that Mr McDonald had not waited at a Holyrood exit for one of Mr Dornan’s staff members, as was alleged.
And it made no judgement on a further claim that the harassment contributed to the woman suffering a stroke.
Mark McDonald allegations could result in legal action
The Press and Journal reported this week that Mr McDonald had been privately advised to consider legal action over the claims.
Yesterday, Mr McDonald said: “The commissioner’s report has disproved or disregarded the overwhelming majority of Mr Dornan’s complaint.
“The manner in which Mr Dornan chose to publicise his complaint, and make lurid allegations against me, has had a significant and lasting impact upon my personal mental health and wellbeing, and has thus affected my family.
“I am grateful that these allegations have not been upheld, as I have always denied them.”
The BBC reported yesterday that Mr Dornan said he was “delighted” with Mr McDonald’s proposed suspension from Holyrood and that he lodged the formal complaint because “the parliament had to be made aware” of his conduct.
