The husband of a woman who died of cancer earlier this year has launched a charity hockey tournament in her memory.
Robert Parfitt was devastated when his wife, Kathy, 43, died from breast cancer just weeks before she was due to appear in Courage on the Catwalk for Friends of Anchor.
But he has drawn up plans for a new sporting event which will begin next June, with the winners receiving the Kathy Parfitt Memorial Trophy.
Last Sunday, Aberdeen Grammar hockey club organised a mixed tournament as a fundraiser and amassed £550 for Maggies Aberdeen.
And Mr Parfitt, from Blackburn, said yesterday he is planning to expand the format into a fully-fledged competition in 2019,
He said: “This year’s event was limited to Kathy’s hockey friends from the Grammar club with a total of 39 people taking part and a further 20 attending a barbecue afterwards.
“However, next year, we intend to encourage all the Aberdeen hockey teams such as Gordonians, Granite City and Bon Accord, to enter a mixed side and for the Kathy Parfitt Memorial Trophy to be presented.
“We are looking to arrange this for the first weekend in June.
“The proceeds will go to Maggies Aberdeen who were a great emotional support to Kathy, myself and our daughter, Charlie, during her illness and now in coping with her loss.”
