A north-east football club has lodged retrospective planning proposals for improved facilities at their stadium.
The application from Turriff United is for the structure that has already been built at The Haughs.
The building is used to provide food and drink on Highland League match days and includes a kitchen, toilets, a small shop and storage space for equipment to maintain the pitch.
Before the updated facility was built, the club relied on outdoor cabins to house the amenities.
A design statement compiled by Aberdeen-based architect JV Carroll said the facilities meant the club now has one of the best grounds in the “entire” league.
It stated: “Without such facilities the club would not be able to continue the great work already done at the site since their inclusion in the Highland Football League.
“Previous facilities were no longer fit for purpose and the only solution was to provide this new building and keep everything in one area and under one roof.
“The building gives Turriff United FC one of, if not the best ground facilities in the entire Highland Football League, something that the whole of Turriff and surrounding area should be very proud of.
“When all said and done, the fostering of sport and in this case football is the most important thing and the club feel this proposal underlines the club’s desire and intention to carry on moving the club into the future.”
Last night, club chairman George Manson said the development of the ground was vital for their future.
He said: “Ever since we joined the league we have always tried to improve the facilities for spectators and the off the field stuff.
“We have upgraded the toilets for the fans, a new refreshment shop and a bar which will contribute as well.
“You have got to try and keep improving.
“We have done okay on the playing side and we think we have a future in the league.
“We want to strengthen that by putting in better facilities.”
The side was established in 1954 and played in the Scottish Junior Football North Premier League until 2009 when they joined the Highland League.
They finished 14th in last year’s competition.
