Former council finance convener Willie Young was absent from the protest in UTG, but insisted he was “right behind” the suspended group.
Mr Young, now a Deputy Lieutenant of the city, said: “I support the Labour nine because the manifesto Aberdeen Labour stood on has been delivered in full.
“The party need to reinstate these councillors who have a collective membership of over 250 years.”
However, former city councillor Nathan Morrison, now a union organiser in England, said: “Their coalition proposal was rejected by the SEC as a matter of policy.
“They ignored the party’s refusal and went ahead anyway. Their expulsion is a result of their own arrogance in the belief that the rules don’t apply to them.’
