A 20-year-old has been arrested after allegedly being caught speeding at 116mph on a stretch of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.
The 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with alleged dangerous driving after police stopped him last night.
Officers from the area’s road policing unit were carrying out speed checks on the A96 at Wedderburn, near Huntly, after locals raised concerns about the 60mph limit being flouted along the single-carriageway stretch.
The man, who was driving a Skoda Fabia, will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
Constable Andy Cruickshank said: “It goes with saying that travelling at these speeds can have catastrophic consequences and is totally unacceptable.
“Driving at such speeds significantly reduces your ability to react to unexpected changes in road conditions and puts other innocent road users at serious risk.
“Speed limits are set to ensure the safety of all road users and are not a maximum limit, not a target.”
