A boa snake has died from its injuries after being thrown across a street in Aberdeen by drunken revellers early this morning.
A video has surfaced of a group of girls discovering the snake, with one woman then picking it up by the neck.
While filming the incident the screaming girls took it in turns to fling the reptile across the street.
Police said the snake had been handed into their Queen Street office by a member of the public, apparently in the wake of its ordeal.
The snake, pictured on a bed of Press and Journal pages, was sent to the Scottish SSPCA’s Drumoak rescue centre to recover yesterday.
However the charity subsequently revealed it passed away from its injuries around 4pm.
The team were unaware of the nature of the reptile’s injury.
Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said: “We are currently investigating an incident involving a snake being thrown about a street in Aberdeen.
“Treating any animal this way is despicable behaviour and we are urgently seeking anyone with any information to call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
“Sadly the snake has now passed away and a postmortem is being carried out in order to establish the cause of death”.
