A drink driver was banned from the roads for a third time yesterday after crashing into a wall – and blaming the collision on a deer.
Angie Reid, 46, was almost five times the limit when her car crashed on the A957 slug road in Stonehaven on June 11.
Police found the office administrator at 8:15am and discovered that the car was badly damaged.
When questioned by officers, she admitted being the driver and said a deer had emerged on the road causing her to take evasive action hitting the wall.
Police later breathalysed her and she was found to have 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 milliletres of breath. The legal limit is 21.
The 46-year-old admitted to driving while over the limit during the incident when she appeared in court yesterday.
The court heard it was her third conviction for this type of offence.
Representing Reid, of Rickarton in Stonehaven, defence agent Liam Mcallister said his client had admitted to having a drink problem and had consulted her GP.
He said: “It is a deeply tragic case, she has previous analogous convictions but they are her only convictions in her 46 years.
“She has a difficulty with alcohol that she requires to address and that is not an easy thing for anyone to address.
“She works as an administrator in the offshore industry. Her employers are aware of this and remain very supportive.”
He added: “Her car was written off and I would ask the court to factor this loss in.
“She had travelled no distance at all.”
Imposing a sentence Sheriff Charlotte Coutts said: “Taking into account that you have referred yourself to your GP without the compulsion of the court I am prepared to deal with this by way of a financial penalty and disqualification.”
She banned Reid from the roads for six year and fined her £600.
She certified her as suitable for the Drink Drivers’ Rehabilitation Scheme which would reduce the disqualification period by a quarter.
