Two men have appeared in court in connection with an attempted raid on a north-east shop.
The Costcutter in Newburgh was targeted at around 4am on Monday morning.
Police believe that this may be linked to a car crash on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road which took place shortly after.
Four people – three men and a woman – were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after a grey Honda CRV crashed into heavy machinery used to resurface roads.
And following this Liam Anderson, 21, and Christopher Cheung-McDonough, 20, appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
They were both charged with theft, theft of a vehicle, theft by housebreaking and possession of drugs.
Anderson was also charged with motoring offences.
The pair, both from Aberdeen, made no plea.
Anderson was released on bail and Cheung-McDonough was remanded in custody.
They are expected to return to court next week.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond said: “Our inquiries are ongoing into both of these incidents and I would urge anyone who was in the Main Street area of Newburgh or on the old A90 at Balmedie around the time of these incidents to get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101”.
