The Grampian Hospitals’ Choir rewrote the lyrics to The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen to mark the NHS’s 70th birthday.
Regardless of your illness, we’ll treat you as our own;
No matter what the pressures are, we’ll aim to get you home
No matter how we are perceived, we all have flaws, we do…
And although we’re not quite perfect, we’ll still be there for you.
The kindly folks in pharmacy, domestics and dentists too;
The back-up of security; the ambulance coming through…
From the caterers and the care staff; our people are here to share…
Your hopes and your fears, your laughter and tears;
Together we copy and care.
Regardless of your illness, we’ll treat you as our own;
No matter what the pressures are, we’ll aim to get you home
No matter how we are perceived, we all have flaws, we do…
And although we’re not quite perfect, we’ll still be there for you.
Whoever is in government, should targets be tough to meet;
The team’s a team, together we stand – we’ll never accept defeat.
With an ageing population, there’s more for our service to do;
But whatever we face, we will bounce back;
We’ll still be there for you.
Regardless of your illness, we’ll treat you as our own;
No matter what the pressures are, we’ll aim to get you home
No matter how we are perceived (we all have flaws, we confess)
It’s time to sing Happy Birthday, our glorious NHS!
