Christmas has come early for a group of north-east volunteers who have been granted £9,900 to expand a popular winter festival.
The team behind the Turriff Winter Wonderland extravaganza received the sum to extend the event over an extra day this December – and to add an ice rink.
The winter spectacle, which lit up woodland at the Dens and featured a variety of performers, ran for one day when it launched last year.
Heartened by the response, organisers decided to stage the event over Saturday December 1 and Sunday December 2 this year and to add some new attractions.
Their festivities will now include a marquee to cover performers and guests in the case of adverse weather and an ice rink, which is being introduced following popular demand.
Organiser Samantha Lima said: “The money is generally going towards expanding the festival and we are expecting the ice rink to be a big attraction this time.
“After the event last year we carried out surveys and the ice rink was a popular suggestion.
“We plan to have it there across both days, with the performances on the Saturday only, and the donation will be a great help.”
