Two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged attempted robbery branded “horrific” by a senior police officer.

Emergency services were called to the Sclattie Park shops in Aberdeen’s Bucksburn area just before 1pm yesterday following reports Sclattie Snacks had been targeted in a robbery.

As a result of the incident one woman suffered from a minor injury, though it is not believed anything was stolen.

In addition to selling hot food and sandwiches, Sclattie Snacks also serves as a post office for the local community.

A heavy police presence could be seen around the shops throughout the afternoon as officers spoke to staff at neighbouring businesses and local residents.

Forensic experts and dog teams were also called to the scene.

Shortly after 4pm, police announced that two men had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone who lives in the area to get in contact and help them with their inquiries.

Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond said: “This was a horrific incident and I’d like to thank the members of staff at the post office and the public for their assistance so far.

“Our inquiries are continuing and I would urge anyone who was in the Sclattie Park or Fairies Knowe area of Bucksburn prior to or after the incident and who saw anything suspicious to come forward.

“In addition, I’m keen to hear from anyone who saw two men running away from the area of Sclattie Park to speak to us.”

It is believed two men had been seen near the back of the shop wearing balaclavas and carrying a weapon – with reports it was a machete – prior to the incident.

Last night the managers of the Sclattie Snacks shop said in a statement, posted online: “We’re all safe and well. The unsuccessful robber got more than he bargained for. Those that know us know we never give up without a wee fight.”

They declined to comment further when approached by the Press and Journal.
