Despite the aftermath of Saturday’s Little Mix concert in Aberdeen, the show itself was still a fantastic performance by the all-girl group.
For the uninitiated, the girl-group were born from ITV’s X-Factor, and subsequently stormed the charts with Spice Girl-esque songs that highlight the power of believing in yourself and looking after your friends.
Girl power has evolved since the days in which Sporty Spice causing a stir for wearing tracksuit bottoms.
Little Mix’s performance was serious and empowering, clearly conveying a passionate message to their young fan base that women shouldn’t feel any less than men in modern day society.
Band member Leigh-Anne Pinnock proclaimed it was the “coldest show of the tour” as rain began to fall.
As the weather worsened, the girls from Little Mix encouraged the audience to keep warm by copying their dance moves, which were fortunately self-explanatory in their lyrics.
Excited children and their slightly less exuberant parents made sure to Salute, Move and flick their Hair as the energetic set list continued.
It was truly a marvel to see the band accompany their faultless singing with energetic dancing, without seeming to break a sweat.
Their lyrics and originality were surprisingly refreshing compared to most other X Factor creations. The north-east audience was treated to a preview of Chicos, a song from the band’s newest – and unreleased – album.
Generations of mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmas got out of their seats for the final song Shout Out To My Ex, which provided an upbeat end to the show.
Even the sleepiest five-year olds got a burst of energy to dance along to the band’s biggest hit.
Before leaving the stage, band member Perri Edwards had words of encouragement for the audience.
She said: “As girls we face so much scrutiny about the way we look and behave – we need to remind ourselves of how fabulous we really are. Thank you Aberdeen.”
