Aberdeen’s Broad Street should fully reopen this week after a £3.2million facelift.
The former thoroughfare will now only be open to buses, bicycles and pedestrians with work expected to finish completely tomorrow.
The project, which began last June, has been blighted by a number of delays – including contractors discovering a “soft spot” beneath the street.
Concerns have also been raised by some disabled groups about the “shared space” concept of vehicles and pedestrians both using the road.
As the street reopens, a trial period will be undertaken with the issue of a potential full ban on all vehicles looked at again in the future.
Council transport spokesman Ross Grant said: “I’m sure the public will happily welcome sight of the final stages of the Broad Street transformation and seeing the completion of key features including the raised green space, trees and the beautiful water fountains.”
