A north-east out of school club has been criticised for hiring staff without carrying out the necessary safety checks.
Funky Monkeys in Huntly has been running since 2005 and was subjected to an unannounced Care Inspectorate visit in April.
The organisation’s report, released yesterday, rated its quality of management as “weak”.
It said: “We reviewed recruitment files for recently appointed staff to ensure that they had been recruited safely.
“We found that references and satisfactory PVG checks had not been received prior to staff starting in employment.
“We emphasised the importance of safer recruitment procedures being in place.”
The report noted there were “no effective quality assurance procedures” for management to monitor standards.
Elsewhere, the inspectors said the quality of care and staffing were both adequate, while it gave the overall environment a “good” rating.
Staff were deemed to be confident in their abilities and were welcoming and respectful towards children and their families.
Parents contacted by the inspectors commented that their children were “always happy” at the club.
A Funky Monkeys spokeswoman said: “We are extremely pleased by the largely positive comments awarded on the latest care inspectorate inspection.
“However, we did receive a negative remark regarding PVGs which the club has taken very seriously.
“We have worked very closely over the last three months with the Care Inspectorate to ensure all corrective actions have been implemented.”
