A young woman from the north-east is celebrating after opening her exam results envelope to discover she’d secured five As.
Peterhead Academy pupil Daniela Moskaliovaite, who moved to Scotland from Lithuania two years ago, admitted she could barely believe the good news.
The 17-year-old, who lives in St Mary Street, Peterhead with her mum, had awaited the arrival of the post on tenterhooks and whisked the letter away into her bedroom to open it in private.
Soon, however, Miss Moskaliovaite was happy to tell everyone what was contained as she achieved As in Higher art, English for speakers of another language, maths, physics and chemistry.
Miss Moskaliovaite said: “When I opened it I got really excited. I actually didn’t expect that much and didn’t believe it at first.
“I was so nervous that I opened it in my room but my mum wasn’t surprised at all.
Nor were the rest of my family. Everyone thought I would get good grades except me.”
Miss Moskaliovaite decided to move from the middle of Lithuania to Peterhead two years ago so she could live with her Mum.
She said: “My favourite aspects of Peterhead Academy were probably the subjects and the teachers – they are amazing.”
She has now accepted an offer to study maths at Aberdeen University.
Peterhead Academy head teacher Shona Sellers said of Miss Moskaliovaite’s achievements: “To have done so well with the limited English she had when she moved is quite astounding.”
