The sixth year pupil got the go-ahead to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge University after securing four A1 passes in her Advanced Higher subjects.

This wasn’t the first success of the year for Iona, from Ythbank near Ellon.

The 18-year-old won a Gold Award in the annual national Biology Olympiad at a ceremony in London, after achieving the highest mark in Scotland.

Abby Miller and Lucy McLean, both 18, had been members of the St Margaret’s prestigious hockey team.

Abby, former captain of the team, will soon be embarking on a Physical Education course at Edinburgh University.

Lucy is exploring a slightly different career path, and will be going to study medicine at Aberdeen University.

She said: “During high school I have loved the small class sizes and playing lots of sport.

“Through the years I have also made so many friendships, including with pupils form the younger years, through hockey and sport.”

Younger students at St Margaret’s were also inspired by their results, including 15-year-old Janani Mohan.

Janani, from Aberdeen, received straight As at National Five, with an additional A in Higher Music.

With two years left in high school, she is thinking about studying to become a vet when she leaves.

The future is bright for the young students
