A man has been fined for a drunken assault in Aberdeen city centre.
Andrew Simpson lashed out as he was being ejected from the G Casino on Shiprow.
He punched James Cowan after he walked over to try and calm him down, and later told police his victim had “deserved it”.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, the 37–year-old admitted the assault, which happened on June 2.
Fiscal depute Kelly Mitchell revealed the extent of the injuries suffered by Mr Cowan.
She said: “He suffered from a small laceration which required stitches.
“He had bruising to the back of his head, it was reported he had sustained damage to the cartilage of his nose but it is not known whether this would need medical treatment.”
The court also heard Simpson, of Grampian Place in Aberdeen, had numerous previous convictions for assault dating back to 2004.
Representing him defence agent Chris Maitland said there had been a break in his client’s offending because he had “grown up.”
Sheriff Sukwinder Gill fined him £200 and said: “You are a man who seems to be very handy with his fists, you have previous convictions for assault to injury.”
