A man who died on a north-east fishing boat is believed to have been cleaning it when he fell ill.
Four crewmates raced to help William Ironside after he collapsed on the Sunbeam, which was docked at Fraserburgh Harbour.
The men also became ill, and were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being given oxygen at the scene. They have since been released.
Yesterday, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch began examining the huge trawler to piece together what happened on Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers cordoned off the boat for a second day and could be seen carrying evidence bags from it and into one of their patrol cars.
Part of Fraserburgh Harbour was cordoned off by police.Robert Cranestone, from the MAIB team, said they would investigate all aspects of the incident.
“There’s no obvious evidence of such a tragic accident,” he said.
“We will look at the activities on board. What was being done, how it was being down and why it was being done.
“It’s such an early stage that we can’t speculate on why things went wrong.
“Although we will run an independent investigation, we will work with everybody on the vessel to get the fullest possible picture.”
Mr Ironside, 52, from just outside Fraserburgh, is believed to have been cleaning the pelagic trawler when he collapsed.
His family were too upset to talk about the tragedy yesterday, but the trawler’s owners paid tribute to a “shipmate and friend who tragically has been lost.”
A spokesman for Sunbeam Ltd said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family of our shipmate and friend who tragically has been lost.
“At this extremely sad time and while the investigation continues it would not be appropriate for us to comment further except to say we are indebted to the emergency services for the exceptional assistance provided by them.”
Miriam Kemp, from the Fishermen’s Mission in Fraserburgh, said Mr Ironside’s death would be felt across the town.
She said: “I would imagine an incident like this would have a big impact on a fishing community like Fraserburgh.
“These things never pass without a lot of sadness in the community.
“It is said when they do happen and when anyone is lost on a boat, whatever the circumstances it does have an impact.”
