A group of keen knitters hope to turn their popular yarn festival into an annual event on the back of its success last year.
The Portsoy Bothy Knitters, who meet up every Monday in the village, are busy preparing for the second Wool@Portsoy festival which will be held next week.
There will be 32 stalls with wool, yarn, spinners and other crafts on display and last year’s star attraction – a herd of friendly alpacas – will also be returning to entertain visitors.
Member Lorna Summers said: “Last year was a huge success, we were really staggered by the number of people who came along.
“We’re interested in the traditional crafts and were amazed that so many people from all over the area wanted to take things away to spin for themselves.
“We were very pleased with the event so this year we’ve spread it across two venues – the Portsoy town hall and the Station Hotel and we hope it will continue every year.
“It’s run by the knitting group who are aged between 40 and 80 years old.
“We knit for charity and everything we make from the festival will go to local and national charities we support.
“In the last few years we’ve donated over £5,000 by selling items and by holding fairs.”
Mrs Summers encouraged other crafters to join the group and said she was thrilled at how much bigger the festival had grown.
She said: “We had 19 exhibitors last time and we’ve got 32 this year who come from all over the north-east.
“The small herd of alpacas who came along will be returning too.
“It was packed and we were truly amazed.
“We’ll have demonstrations, items for sale from very fine yarn to wool that’s more or less straight off the sheep, crochet, knitting – you name it we’ve more or less got it.”
The crafters meet up at the Salmon Bothy in the coastal village every week.
Wool@Portsoy will take place on August 25 between 10am and 4pm.
