The long-awaited Balmedie to Tipperty stretch of the Aberdeen bypass has opened at last and as our video shows, it’s already making a big difference.
For the first time, road users now have a dual carriageway from Parkhill all the way to south Ellon roundabout for the first time.
The dualled road has already been hailed as a development that will reduce journey times for commuters, haulage firms and other businesses.
Our dashcam footage from Tuesday night’s rush hour shows traffic backed up as drivers are forced to merge into the right-hand lane.
Just 24 hours later with the restrictions lifted, traffic is flowing freely.
On the eve of the opening, Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said: “Every day tens of thousands of drivers will now reap the benefits of this section of new road, which was originally a separate project to the AWPR, through enhanced safety, reduced congestion, improved journey time reliability and safer access to local areas and the wider public network.”
