A Merseyside drug courier is facing jail after being caught bringing more than £110,000 worth of cannabis into the north-east.
Police received intelligence that Neil Clubb was smuggling illegal substances into the area by train and began tracking his every move.
They watched as he exited the train station in Montrose on June 26 last year carrying a rucksack and tailed him after he climbed into a taxi headed for Aberdeen.
Once there he got out on the city’s George Street where he entered a property, leaving a short time later without the rucksack.
Officers swiftly obtained a search warrant and carried out a raid on the property, where they found a rucksack contained herbal substances.
They were again on his trail on October 30 when they this time tracked him to the train station at Stonehaven.
He was again seen to exit the train in possession of a rucksack which he this time put into the back of a car being driven by Graeme Leitch.
Officers chose to detain the two men and found that the bag contained remnants of herbal substances.
Clubb, 46, confessed to being involved in the supply of cannabis on both dates during an appearance at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute Alan Townsend told the court that the total value of all the substances recovered was £113,125.
He added that officers carried out searches at other properties after the two men were detained but found “nothing of evidential value”.
Representing Clubb, of Whitfield Road in Liverpool, defence agent Alex Burn said his client had no previous convictions but accepted a jail sentence was inevitable.
Clubb was remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.
His co-accused, Leitch, confessed to being involved in the supply of drugs during the second incident.
The 36-year-old, of Summerhill Drive in Aberdeen, was remanded in custody and will also return to court next month.
