It was at risk of cancellation just a few weeks ago.
But a gala in the north-east has proved a success with residents after a clean-up operation allowed the popular event to take place.
The Friends of Tarlair Gala took place yesterday as the organisers transcended fears it might have to be postponed due to the state of the outdoor pools.
Aberdeenshire Council drained and cleaned the two pools earlier this month.
The Friends of Tarlair group and models boaters were delighted the art deco amenities were tidied up in time for the gala.
Prior to the clean-up, the stagnant and dirty water meant the area, where the yearly gala is held, was deemed unsuitable due to health and safety reasons.
Model boaters who use the pools to test their boats had stopped using the water after algae tangled in the mechanisms.
Chairwoman of Friends of Tarlair Pat Wain said: “This is the first time in four years it has been cleaned out.
“The last and only time was for the first phase conservation repairs on the boating and baby pool, which was four years ago.
“The day started dull but brightened up for the afternoon.”
A barbecue, a wool-spinner, a model boat exhibition and a variety of other activities entertained local families.
Councillor Mark Findlater said the space was ideal for events and should be used more often.
He added: “Tarlair Gala was really good, there was lots of people down there.
“It was a lovely day for it and it’s great to see a fantastic place like Tarlair being used by the community.
“Macduff Heritage Group were showing off pictures and are hoping to set up in the area soon, the Scouts had the barbecue going and there were boats on the pools.
“There were a lot of folk around relaxing and having a good time.
“The council had cleaned the pool and it looks great – it’s fantastic and we should be doing more.
“It’s raising funds for different organisations and getting the folk down to Tarlair to appreciate the sight it is.
“We are looking into using the space for other things as it’s ideal for events and should be highlighted to the public.”
